Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian oak chest of drawers displays a dark brown finish with rich timber grain visible across the wooden surfaces, set against a natural outdoor ground covered in scattered fallen leaves and green moss. The rectangular top sits above an arrangement of six drawers featuring geometric moulded drawer fronts, brass drop handles, small keyhole escutcheons, and visible pegged tenon joinery. Practical proportions measure 84 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, providing substantial storage capacity. Converted from a mule chest, this piece works well in a hallway, bedroom, or living space as a functional storage cabinet for clothing or linens.

FAQs

Georgian panelled oak chests of drawers typically feature solid oak construction, geometric moulded drawer fronts, and brass drop handles. Produced during the eighteenth century, these pieces combine traditional country joinery techniques with functional storage design.

These chests were primarily constructed from solid English oak, frequently utilising pine or fruitwood as secondary lining materials for drawer interiors. Joinery features hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged tenons, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, and natural timber oxidisation inside drawer cavities. Original drawer fronts often feature applied geometric mouldings with period iron locks and brass escutcheons.

A Georgian oak chest functions effectively as a storage focal point in hallways, bedrooms, or living spaces, providing contrast against minimalist backdrops. Pairing dark oak tones with neutral linen textiles, contemporary artwork, or simple modern lamps creates a balanced arrangement.

Maintain timber condition by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying clear beeswax along the grain twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and maintain consistent humidity levels to prevent timber movement.
