Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chiffonier is a small sideboard or cupboard that originated in France during the eighteenth century and became widely popular in Britain during the Regency and Victorian periods. Traditionally featuring a raised shelf or gallery top, it was designed to display decorative porcelain and provide storage in dining rooms or drawing rooms.

Mid nineteenth-century pieces were frequently constructed using figured hardwoods such as rosewood, palisander, mahogany, and walnut. Carved columns, bevelled glass or mirrored panels, brass embellishments, and internal shelf linings were common construction details.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original mirror silvering with light oxidisation, hand-turned support columns, and authentic grain patterns characteristic of true palisander or rosewood. Examination of back panels, lock mechanisms, and drawer linings also reveals historical hand-tooling techniques.

Position the piece against a neutral wall in a dining room, hallway, or living space to serve as a decorative focal point and functional storage unit. Pair the dark wood tones with contemporary ceramics, table lamps, or minimal artwork to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking and colour fading. Clean surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring mirrored glass is cleaned with non-ammonia solutions.
