A superb Art Deco satinwood and walnut chest of drawers, this was made in England and dates from the 1930’s.

It is a great size and is of lovely quality. This is tall and slim, there is lots of storage inside the generous drawers. It sits on a plinth base, and it has beautifully crafted steel and Bakelite handles. This is predominantly satinwood, with lovely burr walnut banding around the edges. There are very beautiful colour tones and grain patterns all over.

We have had this recently stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for its age.

We also have the matching pair of bedside cabinets that came with these, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic veneers, chrome, and contrasting wood grains.

These pieces typically utilized a sturdy softwood or hardwood carcass overlaid with high-end decorative veneers like satinwood, walnut, or mahogany, often featuring dovetail joints and specialized metal or catalin hardware.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct construction techniques, original hardware, specific veneer grain patterns characteristic of the 1930s, and natural ageing signs such as light oxidisation on the metal fixtures.

An Art Deco chest serves as a striking focal point in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, pairing well with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and metallic accents that echo the periods geometric aesthetic.

Preserve wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, applying quality beeswax periodically, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents.
