Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mahogany dresser base, often referred to as a lowboy or serving table, is a low-standing piece of storage furniture typically fitted with drawers and supported by decorative legs. Popularised in the 18th century, it was used in dining rooms and hallways for serving food and storing linens.

Traditional dresser bases were crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings. Metalwork, including drop handles and escutcheons, was typically cast in solid brass.

Authentic Georgian mahogany furniture exhibits hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, cast brass hardware, and hand-carved details such as cabriole legs or pad feet. The wood often retains a rich patination with subtle variations in timber grain.

An antique dresser base functions effectively as a hall table, media unit, or dining room server in modern homes. Pairing rich timber tones with contemporary lighting, minimal wall art, or neutral paint colours balances historical craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly with a dry, soft cloth and polished occasionally using high-grade beeswax to preserve the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid warping or timber bleaching.
