Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), encompassing diverse revival styles that shifted from early neoclassical influences to heavier, highly ornamented designs featuring rich dark woods.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised native and imported hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently incorporating decorative veneers like flame or figured mahogany over sturdy secondary pine frames.

Authenticity is identified through period construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetails on drawer joints, timber shrinkage patterns, original brass or wooden hardware, and natural beeswax patination rather than modern chemical finishes.

Pairing dark polished timber with minimalist contemporary art, neutral walls, and sleek lighting creates a sophisticated focal point that balances historic character with clean modern aesthetics.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and nourish the surface periodically using traditional beeswax polish while avoiding silicone sprays.
