Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style, spanning the reigns of the four Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and an increasing reliance on high-quality imported timbers such as mahogany, moving away from earlier native walnut and oak.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid timber with highly figured mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak. Construction features often include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and solid brass drop handles fitted to backplates.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age-appropriate handcrafting, such as irregular dovetails, hand-planed drawer linings, shrinkage cracks in the timber, and original or period-correct brass hardware fittings rather than modern machine-made screws.

An antique mahogany chest adds warmth and historical contrast to contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist art, neutral wall colours, and simple tabletop accessories, grounding the room with a sense of craftsmanship and heritage.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood and veneer from cracking, supplemented by occasional applications of high-quality beeswax to nourish the timber.
