A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow style of chest of drawers originating in the early nineteenth century, typically featuring a locking side stile that secures all the drawers simultaneously.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or veneered onto secondary woods such as pine or oak, often incorporating fine brass hardware and secondary wood drawer linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, historical patination on the hardware, and a fully functioning locking mechanism operated by a hinged right-hand pilaster.

Position the piece against a flat wall in a study or hallway where its vertical proportions provide practical storage without overwhelming limited floor space.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the wood and maintain its natural lustre, avoiding silicone-based sprays.
