View of a church forecourt with passers-by in Ghent, Flemish region of Belgium. Impasto painting in de Vogel's characteristic Post-Impressionist style, imposing format, oil on canvas, mid-20th century, signed "J de Vogel" on the lower right. Ghent is well known for its large public squares and marketplaces, chief among which is the Vrijdagmarkt (“Friday Market”), the centre of the life of the medieval city amongst famous medieval monasteries. The market-life and hustle superbly captured by the artist (in original and excellent condition).

Artist information: Dutch painter (1908 Sommelsdijk to 1984 Haarlem), known for his vedute of predominately Dutch cities, and occassionally French and Belgium.
