An aneroid barometer is a device for measuring atmospheric pressure without using liquid, invented in the mid-19th century as a more portable and robust alternative to mercury barometers.

These instruments typically feature cases made from turned or carved hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, housing a brass mechanism, a graduated paper or enamel dial, and a protective glass face.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate hand-carved wooden cases, traditional typography on the enamel or card dial, and mechanical components displaying age-appropriate oxidation and hand-finishing.

An antique barometer adds historical depth when mounted as a focal point on a plain painted wall, paired with minimalist furnishings to highlight its traditional craftsmanship.

Maintain the wooden case by dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth and applying appropriate wax sparingly, while avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture fluctuations to protect the internal mechanism.
