Karadja rugs are hand-knotted carpets produced by village weavers in the northwest region of Persia, historically known for durable structures and distinct geometric medallion designs.

These rugs are typically constructed with hand-spun wool pile foundation yarns, often utilising cotton warps and wefts, dyed with traditional natural plant and mineral colourants.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the density of the hand-knotting, the irregular abrash variations in the wool dye, structural asymmetry typical of village production, and natural wear patterns.

An antique rug grounds a contemporary space by introducing rich texture, heritage warmth, and complex geometric patterns that contrast against minimalist or neutral furnishings.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without rotary brushes, professional specialist washing when necessary, and rotation to ensure even foot traffic exposure.
