The Regency style emerged in Britain during the early 19th century, heavily influenced by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian forms. The chaise longue, or daybed, became a fashionable symbol of leisure and classical elegance in wealthy interiors.

Authentic Regency furniture frequently utilises dense exotic timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring hand-carved details, brass or gilt mounts, and curved structural elements joined with traditional mortise and tenon techniques.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber patination, hand-cut joinery, traditional stuffing materials within the upholstery, and the presence of period-correct brass castors or mounts rather than modern fasteners.

A historical chaise longue functions effectively as a focal point in a living room, study, or bedroom, paired with neutral walls and minimalist furnishings to highlight its sculptural silhouette and rich wood tones.

Preserve rosewood by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, maintaining stable room humidity to avoid wood splitting, and dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth without applying modern silicone-based polishes.
