Description

A good quality oak compact chest on chest dating from around 1790 It retains its original patinated finish with a warm golden colour The drawers are cross banded in mahogany and the piece sits on its original bracket feet The cornice has attractive dentil moulding .The top section lifts off to make movement easier The drawers are oak lined and run well. A few old dead woodworm holes which is not unexpected in a piece 235 years old

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-chiselled drawer backs, irregular dovetailing, hand-forged or cast brass hardware with patination, and shrinkage cracks in the timber consistent with centuries of natural drying.
