Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. FAQs

Victorian oil paintings reflect the artistic tastes of the 19th century, ranging from academic realism and romantic landscapes to domestic genre scenes, heavily influenced by the industrial revolution and the rise of the middle class art market.

These works typically utilise oil paints applied to stretched canvas, wooden panels, or millboard, housed within frames constructed from carved wood, gesso, and finished with gold leaf or compa ornamentation.

Authenticity is determined by examining the ageing of the materials, such as craquelure in the paint surface, the composition of the board or canvas support, framing techniques, and the presence of artist signatures or historical exhibition labels on the reverse.

An antique oil painting creates a sophisticated focal point when paired with minimalist modern decor, providing a rich contrast of texture and historical depth against neutral walls.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and keeping the surface clean from dust using a soft, dry brush without chemical cleaners.
