Description

Large and very impressive pair of hammered copper and iron andirons with tops which are in the form of planters.

These unusual and clearly bespoke baronial style andirons have hammered copper planters to the tops with applied fleur-de-lis style mounts and are raised on substantial hammered supports with scrolling feet.

With normal verdigris and marks etc commensurate with age and use, these fabulous and immensely heavy andirons are in good condition and would make great planters away from a fireplace too.

FAQs

Andirons, traditionally placed inside a fireplace hearth, were designed to support burning logs and improve draft airflow. Designs fitted with upper basins or braziers were used to hold warm coals, support cooking pots, or act as decorative hearth containers when the fireplace was not in active use.
