Art Deco furniture, emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, symmetrical layouts, and an emphasis on modernity and luxury.

Cabinetmakers during this era frequently utilised exotic and figured veneers such as walnut, burr walnut, and mahogany, applied over solid secondary woods using traditional joinery and marquetry techniques.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-accurate timber species, book-matched or sunburst veneer patterns, hand-finished surfaces, and construction methods consistent with interwar manufacturing standards rather than modern dowel pins.

Pairing a richly grained wooden headboard with neutral wall colours, minimalist bedding, and understated lighting allows the distinct geometric woodwork to serve as a focal point without overwhelming the space.

Maintain walnut veneer by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or fading, and clean it periodically using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
