Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 18th century, lead garden urns became prominent features in European estate landscaping, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek and Roman antiquity. They were positioned to anchor grand avenues, frame vistas, and decorate formal garden parterres.

Lead garden urns were produced by pouring molten lead into sand moulds or sectional plaster casts. Once cooled, the individual components were joined together and hand-tooled to refine the surface motifs and mouldings.

Period lead urns possess considerable weight, thick hand-cast construction, and visible seam lines from section assembly. Authentic pieces exhibit a soft, chalky grey-white oxidisation layer formed over centuries of atmospheric exposure.

A substantial lead urn functions effectively as a structural focal point in an entrance hall, conservatory, or courtyard space. It can be positioned directly on the floor or elevated on a stone pedestal as an architectural element.

Lead requires minimal conservation as the natural patina protects the underlying metal from deterioration. Cleaning should be restricted to gentle washing with clean water and a soft brush, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive tools.
