The Girl with the Letter, Ca 1890 French Impressionist Oil on Panel Painting

Description

One of my favourite pieces at the moment - you'd think it was an oil sketch by Manet! Unfortunately, the painting is not signed, and I am hardly qualified to make this attribution. Painted with free and confident brushstrokes, this red stockinged young woman is a delight to behold. I love the way a story is being suggested with just a few props.

I imagine she has just come home - not even had time to put away her umbrella - and found a letter, which she is now eagerly reading. What its says? Your guess is as good as mine.

Measuring 12 x 34 cm, the oil on panel is undoubtedly French. The overall size in an elegant frame is 19 x 41 cm.
