A latten wrythen knop spoon is an eating utensil fashioned from latten, a copper alloy resembling brass, featuring a twisted or fluted decorative terminal knob. These items date primarily from the medieval and late medieval periods in England, specifically the fifteenth century.

Medieval spoons of this type were typically cast using latten, a durable alloy of copper, zinc, and small amounts of other metals. The manufacturing process involved casting the bowl and stem in moulds before hand-finishing and detailing the terminal knop.

Authentication involves examining the casting marks, metal composition, patination, and wear patterns consistent with medieval metallurgy. Genuine examples exhibit period-specific typology in the shape of the fig-shaped bowl and the execution of the knop terminal.

Such historic artefacts are typically displayed within specialised collector cabinets, shadow boxes, or on dedicated display stands to highlight their historical significance as miniature sculptures. They add a layer of antiquity and academic interest to curated interiors.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and relative humidity levels to prevent active corrosion or verdigris formation. Cleaning should be avoided or limited to dust removal with a soft brush to preserve the historical patina.
