Here we have a wonderful fine quality Gillows of Lancaster writing desk c1890. As you can see the desk has great colour and patina. There is a deep red tooled and gilded leather skiver to the top. The leather has patches of wear but is the original and could be replaced if required for £150. The top is a wonderful shape and maximises the work space. The top central drawer has the Gillows stamp. The handles are original and the drawers have hand cut dove tail joints and are all solid Mahogany lined. You will see the photo of the underneath of the drawer where the base meets the back. This is made with a slotted piece where the screw attaches. This style of construction was done only by Gillows as when the base of the drawer shrinks overtime it has room to move without splitting. Such a simple and clever thing from this most famous of cabinet makers. The legs are squared and tapered and have the original cup casters.
