In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It has a brass gallery around the top edge and this section also opens to reveal a fitted interior with two original glass inkwells and various other sections for papers and stationery.

It has two carved supports with intricate fretwork panels and rests on its original turned feet with castors below.
Each side including the reverse of the davenport has beautiful carved panelled detail with fleur-de-lys corner pieces. The right hand side is concealing four drawers behind a cupboard door, each with recessed turned wooden handles. We have a working key for the cupboard door.

The quality and condition are excellent and the walnut has developed a wonderful patina. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is clean and tidy. There are some old shrinkage splits around the leather surface (see photos) and some general signs of age, minor marks and small knocks but no major damages or anything detrimental.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
