Antique Farahan Carpet

Description

Ancient and enormous antique Farahan carpet from the late 19th century, woven with a deep indigo blue wool background, and lovely minor borders of terracotta, and rare green dyes.  The classic all-over 'Herati pattern' has been used for the main pattern in the main field.  Used in the 17th-18th century, this Herati pattern depicts two fish swimming around a water-lily.  Wonderful pale greens, reds, pale blues and aubergine dyes which have corroded in areas over the last 130 plus years.

The wool pile is medium high, with some areas of lower pile and a couple of old pieces of minor restoration.

An exceptional oversize antique carpet, ideal for a drawing room, dining room or entrance hall - it would add immense character and be a joy to choose fabrics to work with it, or place in an existing scheme.

Farnham Antique Carpets are specialists in antique decorative carpets, rugs and runners. Varying from antique tribal rugs woven in the Caucasus to classical Persian carpets dating from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century.
