Description

Louis Icart ( 1888 - 1950 ) Original Etching a Aquatint on paper, framed and signed in pencil on lower right border and the number 139/350 on the lower left border.

The Etching "Paresse" ( Laziness ) was published in 1925. Copyright 1925 by Les Graveurs Modernes, 194 Rue de Rivoli, Paris. The plate measures 48cm x 38cm. Overall measurements including frame 69cm x 61cm. It is in a new gilt wood frame, new double mount and new backing. Excellent condition. No foxing or fading. Any light variation is reflection from the camera.

Louis Icart was a French artist best known for his drawings of glamorous women - often erotic or humorous in tone - as well as for his depiction of 1920s and 1930s Paris life. He was born in Toulouse in 1888, and began drawing at a young age. In 1907 he moved to Paris and began studying painting, drawing and printmaking. Influenced by Jean Antoine Watteau, Francois Boucher and Jean Honore Fragonard. He was a major figure of the Art Deco period with his work surging in popularity in both the United States and Europe. He died on December 20th 1950 at his home in Paris.
