Grand Tour bronzes are small-scale bronze replicas of classical antiquities collected by wealthy travellers during the 18th and 19th centuries as they toured cultural sites across Europe, particularly Italy.

These sculptures were typically produced using the lost-wax casting method, utilizing bronze or brass alloys, and often finished with a dark chemical patina to simulate excavated ancient artefacts.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the quality of the casting, the depth and wear of the patina, tool marks on the underside, and the weight and composition of the metal alloy characteristic of 19th-century foundry work.

They can be displayed on libraries, mantelpieces, or dedicated display cabinets to introduce classical proportion, historical depth, and sculptural contrast to modern minimalist or traditional schemes.

Bronzes should be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush and occasionally treated with microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from moisture and handling oils; chemical polishes must be avoided.
