The Animalier movement emerged in 19th-century France, focusing on the realistic and dynamic portrayal of animals, particularly predators and their prey in naturalistic poses.

These sculptures were traditionally produced using the lost-wax method (cire perdue) or sand-casting techniques, utilizing high-grade copper alloys mounted on slate or marble bases.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the quality of the chasing, the depth and colour of the patination, founders marks, signature placement, and the weight and type of the stone base.

Position the sculpture as a focal point on a dark wood mantelpiece, a library desk, or a dedicated console table to add textural contrast and historical weight to a contemporary room.

Maintain the surface by dusting gently with a soft, dry brush and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from atmospheric moisture and oxidation.
