Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Indian brass cobra trays bring an Anglo-Indian style to a gentleman's library. The matching pair displays an antique gold colour throughout their metallic construction, showcasing an engraved peacock design alongside floral foliage details on the surfaces. One tray rests horizontally with a scalloped rim, while the other sits supported by a detailed coiled cobra pedestal stem terminating in a flared snake hood. Visible signs of age include wear to the lacquer in places across the brass surface, alongside a rounded snake body base and distinct engraved textures. The surrounding room context includes dark wooden drawers, round wall mirrors with golden frames, and decorative blue screens in the background. Measuring 21 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep, each item works well placed upon a sideboard top or display table in a living room, study, or hallway interior setup.

FAQs

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Indian artisans created decorative brassware featuring native fauna, such as cobras and peacocks, designed for both domestic use and export to European markets.

Artisans cast the solid brass serpentine base using sand-casting techniques before hand-engraving detailed floral motifs, feathers, and foliage onto the tray surfaces.

Authentic pieces display hand-chased surface textures, slight physical asymmetry from manual casting, and natural surface oxidisation within the recessed engraving.

Place these pieces on a sideboard, bookshelf, or desk as functional trinket dishes or distinct sculptural accents within layered, curated interiors.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives, using a gentle metal polish sparingly to maintain the aged patina.
