Fred Spencer is a highly regarded but little-known specialist still life painter who exhibited widely and prolifically including, 16 works at the Royal Academy as well as works at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Dudley. This is a fine example of his work in the original mount and gilt frame. The frame has had some minor repairs in areas and has been regilt. C.1900.
