The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British King Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated joinery, and a transition from heavy walnut to imported timbers like mahogany.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense imported mahogany for primary visible surfaces, supplemented by secondary native softwoods such as pine or oak for drawer linings, carcase backs, and internal framing.

Authenticity is verified through hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade iron or brass fixings, irregularities in timber grain from manual planing, and appropriate shrinkage cracks or oxidisation consistent with age.

Pairing dark wood period items with neutral walls and modern minimalist decor creates a balanced focal point, allowing the historical craftsmanship and rich grain to contrast cleanly against simpler surroundings.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and periodically nourish the timber surface using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
