A 1930s Oak Chest Of Drawers In The Manner Of The Cotswold School

This attractive and distinctive oak chest of drawers is very reminiscent of the Cotswold School, and dates to the late 1920s. As you can see from the images, the cabinet maker has created a chest of simple form, but also with an eye for detail. These are two of the characteristics of furniture ascribed to this popular school of design that developed from the Arts & Crafts movement. The chest''s turned oak knobs sit comfortably upon their raised and faceted bases, each of which are fixed to the drawer fronts using hand-cut wooden pegs. A combination that, surprisingly, works really well. Its silhouette shaped legs, inset and boarded side panels, and the cabinet-makers use of decorative rose-headed nails and wooden pegs, to locate the top to the base, are all features that makes this chest of drawers stand out.
