A 1930s Oak Chest Of Drawers In The Manner Of The Cotswold School
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Culvertons
This attractive and distinctive oak chest of drawers is very reminiscent of the Cotswold School, and dates to the late 1920s. As you can see from the images, the cabinet maker has created a chest of simple form, but also with an eye for detail. These are two of the characteristics of furniture ascribed to this popular school of design that developed from the Arts & Crafts movement. The chest''s turned oak knobs sit comfortably upon their raised and faceted bases, each of which are fixed to the drawer fronts using hand-cut wooden pegs. A combination that, surprisingly, works really well. Its silhouette shaped legs, inset and boarded side panels, and the cabinet-makers use of decorative rose-headed nails and wooden pegs, to locate the top to the base, are all features that makes this chest of drawers stand out. This piece of furniture is, overall, in good original condition. The drawers run smoothly, with no signs of significant wear. Apart from inlaying two small parallel strips of oak,... to cover two old indentations that ran across the grain at the he bottom of the back right leg, (see image), this chest just required several coats of traditional wax to enhance its surface. A very individual and appealing piece of furniture that would compliment a broad range of interiors.
Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.
We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.
