A very unusual painting of George IV....in oil on a porcelain tile. A period label applied to the rear is inscribed '' GEORGE THE IV PAINTED ON PORCELAIN BY SIR WILLIAM BEECHEY'''' The detail to The Order of the Garter and The Order of The Golden Fleece is well defined. The eyes are expressive and well painted.
Sir William Beechey was appointed to the King and did paint some outstanding portraits in his time this is not of such quality. However...he did paint small portraits and miniatures and his second wife was a well known miniature painter...they married in 1793. The rear of the tile shows in our opinion the correct level of age as does the applied label.....there is no signature or date. More research is required.
Sold together with the display easel.
The tile measures 18 cm by 18 cm (7'''')
The easel measures 14.5 cm wide by 40.5 max high
