FAQs

A bachelors chest is a compact chest of drawers traditionally featuring a hinged top that folds down to create a writing surface, popular during the 18th century.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, often incorporating fine veneers and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade iron or brass fixings, timber shrinkage, and signs of genuine wear consistent with age.

A bachelors chest can serve as a bedside table or hallway statement piece, paired with modern lighting or contemporary art to create visual contrast.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
