Description

This is an incredibly attractive example of Victorian beds of this style. Slightly lighter and more compact in its design with thinner posts and a lower frame and panel overall. Incredibly pretty clamps and very well detailed fleur-de-lys castings further add to this beds charm.

Professionally restored with all joints checked for a solid and secure fit. The siderails have been adapted to be able to take slats or a bed base.

Whole frame shot blasted and primed prior to hand pant finish in Little Greene’s Boxington and Olive colour with dark wax finish, buffed well to protect and give a gentle shine.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian metal bed frames typically feature structural iron or brass construction, incorporating decorative finials, vertical spindles, and robust casting details that reflect the industrial manufacturing capabilities of the 19th century.

These beds were predominantly constructed using cast iron for the main frame and structural components, frequently complemented by brass rails, knobs, and finials, often finished with lead-based or japanned paint treatments.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-poured iron castings with slight irregularities, authentic patina on brass elements, traditional wedge-lock side rail joints, and appropriately scaled dimensions suited for historical mattress sizes.

An antique metal bed serves as a focal point in a bedroom, balancing contemporary minimalist textiles with the industrial character of period metalwork to create a layered, historic aesthetic.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical solvents on painted surfaces, and using specialised non-abrasive brass cleaner sparingly only on unlacquered metal components.
