Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late nineteenth century as a reaction against industrial mass production. Furniture from this era emphasises honest construction, traditional hand craftsmanship, plain unvarnished or lightly waxed native woods such as oak, and functional, unpretentious forms.

Arts and Crafts dressers were predominantly constructed using solid native timber, particularly quarter-sawn English oak. Construction techniques favoured traditional cabinetmaking methods including hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, panelled doors, and turned wooden drawer knobs rather than ornate metal hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit clear medullary ray patterns characteristic of quarter-sawn oak, straightforward geometric silhouettes, and functional design elements like simple plate racks. Look for subtle architectural details such as softly arched aprons, hand-planed surfaces, and original wooden turned handles.

Place the dresser in a kitchen, dining room, or open-plan space as a functional focal point. The open grid upper shelf serves to display modern studio pottery or neutral stoneware, while the lower drawers and cupboards provide practical concealed storage.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth along the grain of the wood. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the oak and protect the finish, avoiding modern spray polishes containing silicone and keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
