Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century pastoral watercolours frequently depict livestock, barn interiors, and farm life using monochromatic sepia washes or subtle colour palettes. These works focus on naturalistic anatomical proportions, realistic light rendering, and tranquil rural subjects popularised by traditional English countryside art.

Artworks from this period were typically executed on cotton rag paper using water-based pigments or inks. Frames were commonly crafted from polished hardwoods or timber veneers such as burr walnut, maple, or oak, complete with protective glass panels and card mounts to prevent direct surface contact.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age on the paper substrate, such as subtle toning or minor foxing, alongside delicate brushwork that absorbs into the paper fibres. Examining the frame construction, matting layers, and rear backing boards provides further structural evidence of era.

Pastoral watercolours function well positioned above console tables, sideboards, or as part of a curated gallery wall. The warm wood tones of burr frames complement neutral paint schemes, exposed brickwork, and traditional or contemporary timber panelling.

Keep watercolours away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation. Clean burr wood frames with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a thin coat of natural bees wax periodically to protect the timber polish.
