A rare find, in its original Edwardian frame.
Portrait of 5 racing pigeons from the NFC, the National Flying Club, belonging to a Mr J Edwards, a pigeon fancier from Southsea. These messenger pigeons were raced in Rennes, France, Nantes and Bordeaux, and Bournemouth during the year of 1913.
The portraits are naively painted in oil on wooden panels and have retained their freshness thanks to having been framed and glazed, and have never been taken out of their original oak frame. The inner mount is beautifully adorned with fretwork.
Pinned to the back board is the original racing program in the form of a large label for the fancier to attach to the pigeons’ travelling cage.
A remarkable historical piece for the collector.
