Description

A beautiful original Art Deco walnut chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

It has a gorgeous and very useful design, with lots of storage space. The walnut has a lovely colour and striking grain patterns, the original Bakelite handles are absolutely stunning with amazing swirling colours in a marble effect.

We have had this recently stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent, with only some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical designs, and the prominent use of exotic veneers such as walnut and burl.

Pieces from this era typically feature solid wood frames with decorative wood veneers applied to the surfaces, complemented by contrasting handles made from materials like bakelite, chrome, or contrasting woods.

Authentic pieces display period-correct construction techniques such as dovetail joints in the drawers, high-quality timber veneers, and characteristic hardware designs consistent with the 1920s and 1930s manufacturing standards.

This type of statement furniture pairs well with minimalist contemporary decor, where its rich wood grain and geometric silhouette can serve as a focal point against neutral walls.

Maintain the finish by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a quality beeswax to nourish the wood.
