FAQs

Cold painted bronze refers to items cast in bronze or spelter that are painted with layers of oil-based paint, a technique notably mastered in Vienna during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These pieces are predominantly crafted from cast bronze, brass, or spelter (a zinc alloy), finished with hand-applied polychrome paint layers.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic wear to the original paintwork, finely detailed casting marks, and sometimes Bergman foundry marks or early serial numbers.

Such pieces function effectively as cabinet curiosities, displayed on bookshelves, desks, or mantelpieces to add historical depth and texture to a room.

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid all chemical cleaning agents or moisture, as water and solvents will strip the delicate, original cold-painted finish.
