Description:
This early Georgian chest displays a transitional design from the late Queen Anne to the George I period, evident with its use of materials, feather inlay to the drawer fronts, half-round moulded frame and bracket feet.

The top of the chest benefits from stunning mirrored quartered walnut veneers, bordered by wide walnut cross-banding and smaller feather cross-banding. The drawer fronts are also decorated with feather inlay against a backdrop of mirror matched figured walnut veneers, flanked by a pretty half-round moulded frame; all of which is typical of this period. The drawers feature later period brass handles and back plates, which are of superb quality; possibly from the later Georgian / early Victory period. The drawers also incorporate working steel lever locks (with key). The drawers are oak lined, with the boards running back to front, and are constructed with primitive hand-dovetailed joints. The sides of the walnut chest retain the original decorative walnut, bordered by a cross-banded walnut cross-banding and the backboards are also original. The Georgian chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze, which is raised on its original bracket feet. The frame of the chest has been constructed in the traditional manner for its period.

Condition Report:

Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frame, sides and drawer bottoms, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers are constructed with the original hand-dovetail joints and oak drawer linings. The drawer fronts are decorated with good quality later period swan neck brass handles and backplates. The drawers incorporate working steel lever locks with key. The cross-banding and feather inlay is all original and intact. The drawers close flush to the frame. The Georgian chest retains its original cross-banded walnut sides, with original backboards and stands on its original bracket feet. This Georgian chest boasts its original patination, which ensures a stunning colour. This Georgian walnut chest is well constructed, solid in joint and is ready to be used.
