ANTIQUE #SA1102503

Antique 'chuqa' (jacket), Bakhtiari Nomads, Chahar Mahal Province, Western Persia.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets

A distinctive feature of Bakhtiari men''s clothing is the ''chuqa'', a sleeveless tunic-like jacket. It is open in front and sometimes held together witha belt. Two panels of material with thin, dark-blue stripes are sewn together horizontally. The upper one is decorated with stepped arrowheads inserted in tapestry technique.

This chuqa is likely to be from around the early 20th century, is in good overall condition with early chuqas now being relatively scarce items to find or acquire amongst the Bakhtiari tribes.

I have attached additional photos of the chuqa being worn.
