Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd
A Late 18th Century French Louis XVI Period Walnut Commode of Small Size.
This commode is of rectangular form with tapering square sectioned legs. The two drawer fronts are veneered in finely bookmatched timber of excellent colour and flanked by pilasters with stop fluted detailing. Below the drawers is a narrow frieze which has dentilled detailing. The sides of the piece are nicely panelled with finely figured timbers as on the drawer fronts. The commode has an overhanging top with a moulded edge and the timber used here is of straighter grain for an effective contrast with the curly veneers used for the side panels and drawer fronts.
A nicely proportioned piece of furniture of good, small size.
