FAQs

Post-war British watercolours often captured urban landscapes, industrial towns, and daily life using delicate washes and ink line work, reflecting a period of post-war documentation and realism.

Artists typically used pigmented ink for outlines, applied with a pen or reed, followed by diluted watercolour washes on heavy cotton rag paper or watercolour boards.

Authenticity is assessed through paper ageing characteristics, ink absorption patterns, period-appropriate signatures, and medium-specific ageing such as light oxidisation on the paper.

Pair the artwork with a simple, neutral mount and a minimalist wood or black frame to let the historical narrative stand out against contemporary or transitional interior walls.

Keep watercolours away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, frame them using acid-free mount boards behind UV-protective glass, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels.
