Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Metal bedsteads became widely popular during the late Victorian era as a hygienic alternative to wooden frames, designed to reduce dust and pests. Manufacturers combined cast or wrought iron frames with decorative brass and nickel accents, creating durable furniture for domestic bedrooms.

Traditional bedsteads utilize hollow steel or solid iron tubing, iron corner castings, and decorative nickel or brass plating on top rails and finials. Modern reproductions often adapt these elements onto slatted platform bases to accommodate standard mattresses.

Authentic period bedsteads typically feature heavy cast-iron joint sockets, hand-poured iron details, and original threaded bolt fittings. Later reproductions often employ lighter steel tubing, machine-welded connections, and modern slat support systems.

Arranging twin metal bedsteads side-by-side in a guest bedroom or childrens room creates symmetry and structure. Complement dark charcoal metalwork with crisp white or neutral linen bedding and subtle textured throws to soften the industrial framework.

Dust painted iron framework regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that may damage the paint finish. Polished nickel components should be gently wiped with a soft cloth and treated occasionally with non-abrasive metal polish to prevent oxidisation.
