The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy baroque influences to more refined neoclassical proportions, frequently incorporating sophisticated veneers and delicate stringing.

Cabinet makers typically utilised native and imported hardwoods like walnut, elm, and mahogany over secondary pine frames, employing hand-cut dovetail joints for drawer construction and intricate boxwood stringing for surface decoration.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetailing, irregular timber shrinkage, period-correct brass hardware fittings, and the natural oxidisation and patina accumulated over centuries on secondary wood surfaces.

This piece works effectively as a grounding anchor in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, contrasting against neutral walls to highlight the rich grain patterns and warm tones of the timber.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the timber without building up surface residue.
