Oil on board of Pony and Trap by Charles Henry Fox 1855 - 1929 (Rare as an Oil, as he was better known as a water colourist)

Charles Henry Fox (1855-1929), born on March 1, 1855, in London, spent the majority of his life in Kingston-upon-Thames. His art reflects the serene rural life of Surrey, Berkshire, Kent, and Sussex's southern counties, offering a stark contrast to the era's growing industrialization. While he was predominantly a watercolourist, Fox also produced oil paintings and extensive etchings that showcased the peaceful countryside, standing in contrast to the burgeoning industrialization of the 20th Century. He died in 1929 in Horsham, West Sussex.

A versatile artist, Fox was celebrated for his picturesque views, rustic scenes, and landscapes. While he predominantly worked in watercolours, he also produced notable oil paintings, such as "Pony and Trap," a piece especially rare given his reputation as a watercolourist. Mainly working with watercolours, Fox painted landscapes and the vanishing Victorian rural life in the southern counties of Surrey, Berkshire, Kent, and Sussex.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1880, when he was only 25 and continued to showcase over 20 paintings there in the subsequent three decades. His work was also displayed at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and Manchester City Art Gallery. In 1889, Fox was elected a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) and in 1890, he exhibited 113 paintings there.
