Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mahal carpets originate from the Mahal region of west-central Persia, specifically around the village of Sarouk, and were produced extensively for Western export from the late 19th century onwards, known for their larger-scale patterns and softer, muted palettes compared to city-woven counterparts.

These carpets are traditionally handknotted using high-quality wool foundations and piles, often dyed with natural vegetable dyes such as madder root and indigo, resulting in rich terracotta, blue, and cream hues.

Authenticity is identified through hand-spun wool irregularities, natural dye abrash (subtle colour variations), asymmetrical knotting, and characteristic large-scale floral or Herati motifs adapted for Western room proportions.

An antique Mahal carpet serves as a grounding foundational anchor in contemporary or traditional spaces, pairing well with minimalist upholstery to let the intricate pattern and terracotta tones command attention.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand-washing by specialists in antique textiles every few years, and rotating the carpet periodically to ensure even wear.
