Cloisonne is an ancient metalworking technique where thin metal wires are soldered onto a metal object to form compartments, which are then filled with coloured enamel paste and fired.

Traditional cloisonne pieces are constructed using a base of copper or brass, fine gilded copper or brass wires to form the outlines, and vitreous enamel paste.
