Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming oil on canvas by the artist Roy Morris 1890-1967. The painting depicts in wonderful detail an orchard scene with a sprawling apple tree in fruit, and chickens feeding underneath. The technique is wonderfully detailed with a bold use of bright colour. The work is not signed but it is inscribed on the reverse as a Christmas gift from the artist in 1952. Roy Morris was a painter and etcher, who was the son of the artist Thomas W.G. Morris. He studied at the Chester School of Art, the Slade School of Fine Art and the Central School of Arts & Crafts. He taught at Derby School of Art from 1920 and exhibited at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, New English Art Club, Royal Academy of Art, Royal Society of British Artists and Walker Art Gallery. This work is in very good untouched condition and is mounted in the original good quality gilt frame. The whole has a great presence and huge amount of charm. C.1950.
