FAQs

Early 20th century watercolour paintings often featured loose brushwork, expressive colour palettes, and a focus on natural subjects like landscapes and still life studies, reflecting a shift away from rigid academic realism.

Traditional pieces were typically created using high-pigment watercolours on heavyweight rag paper or cellulose watercolour board, often housed in timber frames with glass protection.

Authentic pieces can be identified by examining the paper texture, signs of natural ageing such as minor foxing or toning, handwritten signatures or inscriptions on the reverse, and period framing techniques.

These artworks pair well with neutral walls and can be hung as part of a gallery wall or displayed individually above a console table to introduce organic texture and historical character to contemporary spaces.

To prevent fading and deterioration, display watercolours away from direct sunlight, maintain stable room humidity levels, and ensure they are framed with acid-free mounts and UV-protective glass.
