Oil Painting of Jessamine Cottages, Nottingham by Ernest Cox

A charming oil on board by Ernest Cox (exh.1909-1938) depicting Jessamine Cottages in Nottingham. The work is beautifully and charmingly done in a simple and free impressionist manner depicting a bright summer day with the cottage gardens in full bloom. Jessamine Cottages were in the centre of Nottingham near the castle on Gillyflower hill but have sadly been demolished. Ernest Cox is not a well-known artist and seems to have only exhibited in Nottingham at the Castle Art Gallery which he did 56 times, an impressive number. The work is in excellent condition and framed in a good quality and substantial frame, almost certainly the original but reused from an earlier work. The whole has a great decorative look and is ready to hang. C.1930
