Description

A rare and charming life-size model of a seated dog in buff terracotta, with head turned and an inquisitive expression on his face. He has clearly spent all his life indoors as the condition is very good and has a smooth built up patina over the whole surface. 

This superb well sculpted model of terracotta dog was crafted and signed by the well-known 19th century atelier of Jean Garouste in Castelnaudary in Southwestern France.

This nineteenth-century lifesize sculpture depicts a seated dog rendered in warm tan terracotta earthenware with a smooth finish and a naturalistic seated pose. The muscular animal wears a buckled collar adorned with decorative circular motifs, while its alert head turns to the side above modeled fur detail on the chest and head. The entire figure rests upon an integral rectangular plinth measuring 67 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 26 cm deep.
