In open rolling hills countryside, his cottage can be seen in the background on the left side. The woodcutter has blue eyes and rosy cheeks with white grey hair & is carrying his axe and is smoking a long pipe, wearing his traditional country clothing with hat, jacket and boots. He has such a fascinating thinking expression as he is looking directly at the viewer. His dog is beside him looking up at his master with affection emotion shown in his face. Just above the dog in the distance are 3 donkeys are by a fence.

Offered in fine used condition.
Front painting surface is in acceptable overall order. Having various noticeable foxing staining, craquelure & some paint loss in places. The canvas has a tear near top left which has had a patch repair made to it shown on the back, also a second smaller patch repair was made to the lower area of the gents coat with overpainting in these areas & background areas. The frame has losses, chips, paint loss, cracking, scuffs, scratches & general wear commensurate with usage & old age. It woulkd benefit with being cleaned and relined.

Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTD operates on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis which means that the International buyer is responsible for any import duties, taxes & customs clearance charges and any other customs charges which may be necessary to release an order from international customs.
Following the UK leaving the EU on 1st January 2021 (BREXIT) there have been some changes to customs & duty charges for EU customers. Tax and import duty varies from country to country so we recommend you check with your local tax office to see if any fees will be payable.
